During his time in Austin, Patchineelam worked daily in a storage pod in the CRL's parking lot, and created paintings determined and inspired by the space and its condition.
Vijai Patchineelam (b. 1983, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) lives and works in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Patchineelam's work documents a sincere dialog between an artist, his studio and the everyday environment outside of it. His work is improvisational and performative in nature, taking advantage of the objects he finds in his space. Process and experimentation are vital to the work, revealing the constantly evolving relationship between people and their environment. Patchineelam received a B.A. in Industrial Design from the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. His work has been exhibited in numerous group shows including the IV International Biennial of Bolivia, for which he received the prestigious Latin Union Award, and in a solo exhibition earlier this year at Bombay Gallery in Mumbai, India. Patchineelam has held residencies in France and India, and the Iberê Camargo Artist-In-Residency Program will be his first in the U.S.
