Blanton Student Fest 2012: Thursday, April 5 from 8 AM to 10 PM

Spend the day at the Blanton Museum of Art (or stop by before, after, or in between classes) for the spring edition of Student Fest, featuring fun, creative and free activities.

Enjoy discounts at the cafe and museum shop, student-led tours of current exhibitions, button making, an outdoor photo booth, free food at night, a poetry jam, a performance by the Conjunto Ensemble and an outdoor movie screening of the street art flick "Exit Through the Gift Shop." Student Fest is FREE to college students.

Here's the full schedule of activities:

8 AM – 4 PM: Special discounted breakfast and lunch menu in The Blanton Café.

10 AM – 5 PM: 15 percent student discount in the Museum Shop. (Wear your Student Fest button into the shop and receive a prize!)

3 PM – 8 PM: Student-led Tours Student Guild members will lead groups through interactive and discussion-based tours of Go West! Representations of the American. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences with nature and the west. Interactive Crossword and Word Search Puzzles Test your knowledge of Old West vocabulary with these larger than life word games! Prove that you’re no yack (ignorant person) but in fact the star-toter (sheriff) of these games. Button making! Create your own sheriff star, or any other creative flare you wish to show off! All materials provided, just bring your creativity and ideas.

3 PM – 9 PM: Outdoor Photo Booth Wear your best, Western-inspired gear to Student Fest, then strike a pose and show it off in our outdoor photo booth. Fun costumes, accessories, and props are provided, and pictures will be uploaded to The Blanton’s Flickr account. Vote for your favorite and help them win a prize! Art activity Craft your very own props to take with you into the photo booth. Always wanted a mustachio, grizzly beard, or huge sombrero? Now’s the time to make it (and even take it home with you)! Photo booth assistance provided by Texas Photography Club.

5:00 PM – 8 PM: Free Food Great food and drinks from The County Line, Milto’s Mediterranean Café, The Cupcake Bar, Honest Tea, Zico Drinks, and more!

6 PM – 7 PM: Poetry Jam Are you a poet and you know it? Share your literary skills with fellow writers and written-word enthusiasts in this comfortable and welcoming environment. We leave subject matter up to you, though some Cowboy poetry will be read! Poetry jam assistance provided by the UT Spitshine Poetry group. 7 PM – 8 PM: University of Texas at Austin Conjunto Ensemble performs This musical group from the Butler School of Music is sure to get you moving with their collection of Tejano, Cajun, Blues, and Rock ‘n’ Roll!

8 PM – 10 PM: Movie on the lawn: "Exit Through the Gift Shop" This street art flick follows an eccentric shop-keeper turned amateur film-maker as he attempts to capture many of the world's most infamous vandals on camera, only to have a British stencil artist named Banksy turn the camcorder back on its owner with wildly unexpected results.
