Image Requests

Rights and Reproduction Policy

In general, the Blanton approves only scholarly, educational, and non-profit projects for the use of images in the collection. Commercial projects may only be approved if educational or scholarly in nature. We may not be able to fulfill every request due to copyright, or other restrictions. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. A minimum of 2-week notice is required to process
image requests.

Image Request Fees

The applicant will be notified of applicable fees. Image fees are determined upon the nature of the request, and the applicant’s status as a non-profit or commercial organization. Fulfillment is made for existing images only. If new photography is required, additional fees may apply.

Image Request Submission

All requests to reproduce images of artwork from the Blanton Museum of Art collection must be submitted via e-mail to Michael Carnes at michael.carnes@blantonmuseum.org

Upon review, an invoice and the museum’s Application for Permission form are then prepared and sent to the applicant by Blanton Museum Rights and Reproductions staff. Payment (by check or credit card) and the completed Application for Permission form must be received prior to sending the image out. Digital images are sent using a link for download.

If your request is still unanswered or you’ve encountered any issues with the recently removed submission form, please follow up with the Rights and Reproductions Contact:
Michael Carnes, michael.carnes@blantonmuseum.org

Image Access for UT Students and Staff

The UT Libraries system provides access to campus collection images on Artstor. Students and staff with EIDs can log in to view institutional collections in addition to other public collections and register for an account to download images for study and scholarly use.

Visit the Fine Arts Library’s Visual Resources Collection LibGuide here for more information.

Artstor allows quick PowerPoint downloads, an image viewer to zoom in to details, automatic citations, and an image comparison viewer for up to 10 images at once.

To search for Blanton collection material on Artstor follow the instructions below.

Within the campus collections the VRC collection can be searched to find the Blanton’s material. To view these collections, select Browse “Institutional Collections” and select “University of Texas – Art and Art History Visual Resources Collection.

A selection of Blanton material can be accessed by searching artists, titles, and keywords, and including “Blanton” to narrow search results. For example: “Ellsworth Kelly; Blanton”
