Event Details

Enjoy some interpretations over your lunch break and join us for a special world premiere of ’re-composed’ works by (Alma) Mahler, Schoenberg, and more from Density512

Density512 challenged some of Austin’s finest emerging composers to ’re-compose’ and re-imagine songs for voice and piano by the late-Romantic German composer Alma Mahler to become new works for chamber orchestra. Featuring composers Akshaya Avril Tucker, Adeliia Faizullina, and Seo Yoon Kim, the ’re-composed’ lieder will be paired with Songs of a Wayfarer, a quintessential work by Alma’s husband, Gustav Mahler, and orchestrated by Arnold Schoenberg. Concert closes with Schoenberg’s Kammersymphonie No. 1, once described by a famous guy  ’hyperactive, acrobatic and not a little aggressive’.

This event is sponsored by KMFA, Classical 89.5 and produced in collaboration with the Butler School of Music.

This event is included in the price of admission. Free for members and UT students, faculty, and staff.
