Race and Social Justice in Art
CHAPTER 4: Curriculum: Doing Social Justice
Chapters
The Blanton has a longstanding, ongoing commitment to activating its collections on behalf of anti-racist and social justice values. Our “Doing Social Justice” lesson plans, created in collaboration with colleagues at the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Austin Independent School District (AISD), are among our most popular offerings for middle and high school classes.
In summer of 2019 the Blanton was proud to partner with educators from Facing History and Ourselves to offer a workshop for AISD teachers on teaching about the Civil Rights Movement and racism.
The content available below was developed through the partnership with ADL and AISD for a series of instructional posters. We hope that the images and related questions support families in talking about the important issues of racism and belonging.
