We recognize the wide-ranging abilities and needs of our visitors and offer services to ensure the museum is accessible to all.

Drop-Off and Parking
Visitors may be dropped off and picked up at the Museum Drop-Off on Brazos St., where there is an accessible route along the south or north side of the Michener Gallery Building. Please call our Visitor Services team if assistance is needed.
Paid parking is available for persons with disabilities at all University garages. Brazos Garage (210 E. Martin Luther King Jr.) is the closest University garage, located one block from the museum. ADA spaces and elevator access are available on the Ground Level (Level G).
Brazos Garage and Trinity Garage are both closed to museum visitors on UT home football games. The closest and most affordable parking on game days is across the street at the Bullock State History Museum ($25 for all-day parking). Designated and accessible parking spaces are located near the elevators on each level of the Bullockโs garage.
Accessible routes to the museum
- Locate north entrance/exit on Ground Level (Level G). Elevator access is also available on this level.
- Exit north onto Jester Circle, crossing Brazos St.
- Follow the accessible route along the north side of the Michener Gallery Building.
- Turn left at the corner of the Michener Gallery Building and proceed across the Moody Patio toward the Smith Building. Look for the yellow, upside-down โUโ entrance which reads โCheck-Inโ above the Smith Building entry doors.
- The Check-In Desk is located through two sets of glass doors which can be opened automatically using a wave gesture (white square panels on the wall indicate where to wave).
- Head west on north side of MLK Jr. Boulevard and at the corner of Brazos St. proceed up the accessible route, located next to the Museum Drop-Off.
- Follow the pathway until you reach the Moody Patio, and go toward the Smith Building to check in. Look for the yellow, upside-down โUโ entrance which reads โCheck-Inโ above the Smith Building entry doors.
- The Check-In Desk is located through two sets of glass doors which can be opened automatically using a wave gesture (white square panels on the wall indicate where to wave).
- Head east on north sidewalk of E Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
- Turn left at the Faulkner Gateway entrance, entering in the accessible route entry on the right side (looking north) of the staircase.
- Proceed across the Moody Patio toward our Smith Building located on the left. Look for the yellow, upside-down โUโ entrance which reads โCheck-Inโ above the Smith Building entry doors.
- The Check-In Desk is located through two sets of glass doors which can be opened automatically using a wave gesture (white square panels on the wall indicate where to wave).
- Head south on Speedway.
- Turn left at Jester Circle and enter via the accessible route.
- Follow the pathway through the Butler Sound Gallery.
- Upon entering the Moody Patio, head toward the Smith Building. Look for the yellow, upside-down โUโ entrance which reads โCheck-Inโ above the Smith Building entry doors.

Visitors with limited mobility
Elevators are available on all floors of the Michener Gallery Building and the Smith Building. Austin by Ellsworth Kelly is wheelchair accessible.
Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are available for use on the ground floor of the Michener Gallery Building and both the ground floor and second floor of the Smith Building.
Entrances have touch-free door access. Wave your hand to activate the sensors and automatically open the doors. Sensors are located on the left side of the exterior and after both sets of interior doors.
Wheelchairs are available for visitors to use on a first-come, first-served basis. Ask for assistance at Check-In.
Visitors who are blind or have low vision
Large-print texts of labels in some our galleries are available upon request. Please email us if you would like these prior to your visit.
Audio guides are available in English and Spanish for Austin by Ellsworth Kelly.
Visitors hard of hearing or deaf
Assistive listening devices are available for public tours at no additional cost. The gallery teacher will wear a microphone and offer devices before the start of the tour.
Open captioning is provided for many video works with dialogue in the Film & Video Gallery. Transcripts are available at Check-In upon request.
Sign language interpretation can be arranged for events at no additional cost. Please contact us at at least two weeks in advance to request.
Service Animals
Only service animals are permitted in the building. In accordance with The University of Texas at Austinโs policy, โservice animal must have been trained as a service animal in the work or tasks directly related to the personโs disability.โ We ask that service animals are harnessed, leashed, or tethered to their accompanying individual. An individual with a service animal in training may also enter the building, subject to meeting the requirements in section VII.C of UTโs policy.
Emotional support animals are not permitted inside any university buildings. The University of Texas at Austinโs policy specifies, โAn emotional support animal is permitted on campus grounds and to accompany an individual into his or her University assigned residence in accordance with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. However, a support animal is not allowed to accompany the individual into his or her residential dining center or into any other University building.โ
