Join us for this special program that forms part of our ’Distinguished Speakers in the Art of the Spanish Americas’ Series. This talk will be led by Gustavo Tudisco, Curator at the Museo de Arte Hispanoamericano Isaac Fernandez Blanco – Sede Palacio Noel, Buenos Aires, Argentina, who will discuss how the private and public art collections at the Fernández Blanco Museum were created, especially those of silverwork. Not too many people have studied this material in detail despite being very popular in the colonial period and the most important reason for colonization: only Potosí, in what is today Bolivia, provided an estimated 60% of all silver mined worldwide, thus helping locate Spain at the heart of European politics in the 1600s and 1700s.
This event will take place in our Capitol Room, located in the Smith Building across the plaza (upstairs from the Blanton Café). Please feel welcome to bring your lunch. Seating is limited so please RSVP in the ticket link below to secure your place.
