Pulitzer Prize winner, bestselling author, and famed American art critic Jerry Saltz is one of today’s most popular and influential cultural writers. Hailed as a “critic of the people” Saltz is known for democratizing art for a broad audience through his snappy column at New York magazine and his viral social media content.

A sharp and entertaining speaker, Saltz will discuss the art world, the role of criticism, and his latest book, Art Is Life: Icons & Iconoclasts, Visionaries & Vigilantes, & Flashes of Hope in the Night, a survey of contemporary art in turbulent times. The New York Times calls Art Is Life: “a love letter to the art that, for Saltz, makes all the wheeling and dealing worth putting up with.”

Saltz will be in conversation with Carter Foster, the Blanton’s Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs. From eye-opening stories about trailblazers like Kara Walker, provocateurs like Jeff Koons, visionaries like Jackson Pollock, and surprising takes on Thomas Kinkade and Kim Kardashian, this Blanton Live is a not-to-be-missed conversation on the art world.

The talk will be followed by an audience Q&A and book signing.

Support for Blanton Live: Conversations for Now is provided by Margaret McCarthy and Michael Potter and the Carolyn Harris Hynson Centennial Endowment.
