At this month\’s Beat the Rush you can skip the Austin traffic and heat and settle in for some soothing symphonia, courtesy of Austin Chamber Music Center and Crisantemi Quartet. This newly created quartet is composed of students from the Cuban University of Arts who also belong to the Youth Orchestra of the Lyceum Mozartiano de La Habana; they will perform inspirations on Cuban artwork in our galleries.
Crisantemi debuted in San Felipe Neri Hall during the Mozart Havana Festival 2016. Since then, the group has participated in other music festivals, such as the Musicalia Festival (sponsored by the Cuban University of Arts) and the 13th edition of Havana Chamber Music Festival. In addition, the young quartet has performed in José White Hall (Matanzas City), the National Museum of Fine Arts (Havana City) and the Saint Francis of Asis Hall (Havana City). They have regularly taken part in the workshops offered by the Lyceum Mozartiano, receiving master classes from Walter Reiter, Michael Dabroski, Charles Wetherbee and Benjamin Schmid, among other outstanding musicians from around the world. Besides their work as a group, its members have their own careers as soloists, making them all prominent students and musicians.
