Our newly renovated museum grounds, featuring several large-scale works of art, will be free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.*
We invite everyone to spend time relaxing on the lawn and the colorful seating of the Moody Patio, or under the towering “petal” shade structures that frame a perfect view of the Texas State Capitol. You’ll find many other Instagram-worthy scenes and selfie spots on the Blanton grounds, including the iconic façade of Austin by Ellsworth Kelly.
Visitors can enjoy a special self-guided exploration (above) of the Blanton grounds, featuring:
•Butler Sound Gallery with Landscape Soundings by Bill Fontana – sit or walk among stately live oaks in this natural space dedicated to sound art, while experiencing the sounds of distinctive Austin and Hill Country features such as Barton Springs and the bats of Westcave Preserve.
•HI by Kay Rosen – snap a pic of the lighthearted and colorful mural greeting visitors entering the grounds from Brazos Garage.
•Verde que te quiero verde (Green how I desire you green)… by Carmen Herrera – rest on the shaded bench where this bold geometric mural spans the length of the Michener Gallery Building.
•Plexus No. 44 by Gabriel Dawe – enter the Check-In lobby on your way to the Museum Store and look up to see this spectrum of colorful thread shimmering above you.
•unique architectural elements created by international design firm Snøhetta.
The Museum Store will also be open, offering a range of art-inspired products, including Texas-themed gifts, books, and cards by local artists.
* Entry to the museum galleries and Austin by Ellsworth Kelly requires a valid UT ID, Blanton Membership card, or paid admission ticket.
