Take a deep dive into art, art histories, and more with these hour-long talks presented by distinguished art professionals. Hear Steve Parker — renowned Austin artist, musician, and longtime Blanton collaborator — discuss his whimsical Weird Winter and wider artistic practice with Hannah Klemm, Blanton Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art.

ABOUT STEVE PARKER

Steve Parker is a musician, artist, and curator who creates communal, democratic work to examine history, systems, and behavior. His projects include elaborate civic rituals for humans, animals, and machines; listening sculptures made from salvaged marching band instruments that are modeled after obsolete WWII acoustic locators; and cathartic transportation symphonies for operators of cars, pedicabs, and bicycles. He is the recipient of the 2021 Rome Prize, the 2020 Ashurst Prize (UK), and the 2018 Tito’s Prize, as well as multiple grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. He is also a 2023 McKnight Visiting Composer with the American Composers Forum.

PARKING / TRANSPORT: Parking is available in the Brazos Garage. Normal rates can be paid directly at the garage. (Blanton Members get a $4 discounted rate at Check-In, valid all day). Ride-shares can drop off in the new Museum Drop-Off on the east side of the museum. Bicycle racks are available on the south side of Jester Center and on the west side of the museum’s Smith Administration Building. Public transit is encouraged; Cap Metro bus routes 1, 3, 7, 10, 18, 19, 20, 801, and 803 have stops within walking distance.
